Knitting With DPN's

I started gloves for Carly for her birthday with left over yarn.
I found that it works to put a needle point protector on one end of the first needle to hold my stitch marker in place, it also works as a stitch marker. And to put one on the last needle after my row counter, I have one on a cord to put around my neck, but if I'm doing a pattern that I need to keep track of both stitches and rows, this is a good way to do it, and to know which is which.
They don't seem to slow me down any either, I just whip right along.

Last two gifts that I finished.

I finished the scarf I charted and made up a pattern for. It's for my best friends hubby. I would change a few things the next time I were to make one like it, but all in all I'm not disappointed in it. Being it's for a man who works on large equipment, I wanted it to stay close to his body and not flop around and get in the way were it could be a problem.
I also finished the wrist warmers I was making for Carly's older sister. She said she loves them, the color and the pattern, I'm so glad, they were interesting to make.

Yeah~!!! Finished.

Well, I got the hooded scarf finished so that it can go in the mail tomorrow, YEAH!!!
My niece is modeling for me. :)

Hooded scarf

Well I've gotten the scarf done a few days ago, now I'm just trying to get the hood done, seems to be taking forever for such a simple pattern.
But here's what I have so far.
By the way, the scarf has buttoned pockets.

Teaching Carly to Knit

Well, it's Christmas break and I have my 10 yr old niece Carly for a week, YEAH!! Last time she was here we worked on crocheting and her older sister crochets so I decided this time we'll learn to knit.
She wanted to make something for mom for Christmas, so we're making a wash cloth, just knitting every row. Nothing fancy but her mom will LOVE it. :)

I'm addicted

To this cowl pattern, it makes nice easy gifts, with wonderful yarn, it's so soft and warm.
I'm making another one but decided on a lighter weight wool/mohair blend. The blend was just a little to light weight so I decided to use 2 strands of yarn, for the second strand I am using a lighter weight grey wool.
The two go well together, I'll be finished with it this afternoon and will post a pic.

Well, here it is, I got it finished. I love love love the way the colors came out.

Another Cowl

Here's another cowl, same pattern as the last one, but different color. I think this one came out nicer, but I love them both. I love the chocolaty color of this one though, makes me think of hot frothy cocoa.

Cowl for a friend finished

Whoohoo!! Didn't take long at all, taught myself the magic loop method in order to do this pattern since my circs were too long to use easily. Once I got the hang of it, it wasn't bad, just making sure that I got the first and last stitches tight enough but not too tight was the hard part.

Cowl for a friend

I decided to make cowls for a few friends for Christmas gifts. I found one that I'm doing right now for a couple of the cowls, it's the Delores Park Cowl from SixOneSeven's blog at http://sixoneseven.blogspot.com/2008/03/dolores-park-cowl.html

I really like it, I'm using a different yarn since I didn't have access to the one she used. I'm using Andes Alpaca from Yarn Bee, it's nice and soft and I love the color.

I'll post a pic as soon as I'm finished, should be later today. :)

Kaya's sweater

Well, it's been cold, rainy and just dreary winter weather here the last few days, but we need the rain so won't complain. Hubby had to work inventory last night at his job, 8pm-8am so I stayed up all night finishing the sweater and getting it sewn together, then I started my son's sweater. It's the same pattern as the pink one I did, but just different neck, this one is the polo neck, the other was a shawl collar.

It's out of the Debbie Bliss book, Family Knits

Finished Dress

Well, I finished the Sock to Frock for Brittania, I still have to add the buttons and weave in a few ends, but I think it turned out great.

Brittania's Dress and Getting Married...

Well, I haven't been here for a few days, just busy.
Got married on Friday November 11, 2011. YEAH!!!!
It was just David and I and my best friend and her hubby, but it was great.
We got married at the Justice of the Peace, then went to Gruene, TX for dinner at the Gristmill and Gruene Hall to listen to the Jeff Strahan Band, AWESOME!!!

Anyway, now I'm back. I have gotten a few things finished over the last week or two, I'm working on Brittania's dress again, I got the skirt finished and am working on the back of the top.

Dinky Long Legged Doggy Sweater

Okay, well, I maybe crazy to try to do this. I am going to try to make a dog sweater for a long legged small dog (Chinese Crested). Should be interesting, I cast on 75 on dpn's and am starting at the neck. I'm going to make a simple ribbed pattern since I'm using such a cool yarn color. Wish me luck,

I'll keep you posted.

Sorry for the error, and I was trying so hard not to have errors, oh well, goes to show the harder you strive for perfection, the more flaw pop out. lol...

Wednesday Morning Wristwarmers 2nd run

Well, I didn't like the way I had the one little cable running wonkily through the warmer, so I frogged this morning and used my subpar drawing skills and sketched what I think I ultimately want it to look like. :)
I'm about 2 inches in now, and much happier than I was with the 5 inches I had.

Wednesday Morning Wristwarmers

Well, here I go again.
My hands are freezing this morning, in the mid forties here this am, so decided I have babytots cotton from Bernat, so creating some wristwarmers. so far so good.
Should have one finished fairly quickly, figuring out how I want the cables takes the longes.

Cold Coffee Update

Well, here it is, my instant gratification for the day.
It has booboo, and I'll fix that in the pattern, and I think for this cup, I'd add 2 more rows (the cup I used to mesure is taller and narrower).
Let me know what you think.
I'll add the pattern later after I rewrite it in a legible way. lol

Cold Coffee

Ugh! I got up way early this morning, it was in the 50's...I'm happy we're getting into cooler weather, but do we really have to jump from 90's to 70's in one fail swoop?
Well, I was chatting with Marla on the computer, and picked up my coffee cup and realized it was cold, I have saved a multitude of coffee cup cozy patterns but for some unfathomable reason I decided to just create one.
Nothing like making work for myself. Well, here's a pic of what I have so far, should be done in just a few.
I had to frog what I first did, way to big, I'd have had to have a really tall coffee cup to make it work.
I'm writing it down as I go.

An Award! Thank You

Well, I woke up sneezing at 5:30am and logged on to the computer and, too cool, I had an Award,

Thank you so much to Aadoria (love that name) over at http://anythingbutandthensome.blogspot.com/
I do so appreciate it.
Go check her out, way too cool what she does with paper products to make the most beautiful flowers, and the ice cream blog is teriff too.

Okay, I guess one of the rules is to tell you 7 things about me.
1. Well, I was born and raised in Alaska, it's still home sweet home, but moved to Texas 131/2 yrs ago. I packed up my son, 2 dogs and 2 birds and just did it, Scariest thing I've ever done, left everything and everyone I knew to transfer to a job in a new location. But glad I did it.

2. I have a 26yr old son, yes I too got preggers at 19, but I have been a successful mother, my son is doing well, and happy,

3. I worked for the USPS for 20yrs before deciding I needed another change and resigned my job. I know it was a risk, but isn't life, and I'm happier today than ever.

4. I have 2 dogs and a kitten, the kitten is in Wyoming with my Stepmother right now, waiting for me to go get her and bring her home.

5. I have one tatoo, that I got when I was 24, was going through a rough patch and my lion reminds me that no one has the power to take my power unless I give it to them. He needs touched up though, poor guy, a little faded.

6. I used to be addicted to games on Facebook, but am now addicted to Knitting Paradise.com

7. I'm getting married next month to the wonderful man I've been with for 10yrs.

Okay, now that you've had to suffer through that, I need to give you 15 blogs I follow, I'm new to the whole bloggosphere thing, so I don't know if I have that many, but here it goes.

I've found these all over the place in my quest for creative outlets, and I like them all. As I said, I haven't been following anyone for long, new to this whole process.
Hope you check them out.

Brittania's Dress, update

Well, here's what it looks like with some body to it. I have about 71/2 more inches to go, but I think it looks pretty good so far.

Brittania's Dress

Here's a pick of the dress from the Knitters Magazine that I'm making.

Dress for Brittania

Well, I started Brittania's dress that I'm making for Christmas today.
The pattern's really cool, from Knitters Magazine Fall 2010, the Socks to Frock, made with sock yarn.
They used Malabrigo, I'm using Red Heart, Heart and Sole, same gauge.
I've only gotten about 10 rows done so far, had to frog a couple times, seems the easiest patterns are the ones I end up frogging the most, probably because I don't pay attention as closely as I should.

Kindle Cover

I finished the purple Kindle cover I was making out of the purple thing. A friend is going to purchase it to give as a Christmas gift for a friend of hers. Whoohoo.

Sunday Oct 9

Well, it's a rainy 64 degrees at 10:45am. Yay!!! We needed the rain soo bad, and we're getting buckets of it, not so bad that anyone floats, but enough to keep man and beast inside for the most part, drinking coffee, and watching the beautiful drops fall from the sky.
Working on a wip that I had started a month or 2 ago. The green scarf, I think I'll get it finished this week.
Then onto a childs dress.
I think I'll read for a while today also, I need to get Dark Lover by J.R. Ward read soon.
Have a great Sunday all, or whatever day it is where you are.

Blue Roses

Well, I've gotten most of the doily I have been designing done, I just have to finish it up.
But here's what I have so far.
I think I'm going to take a break and read for a bit, and maybe take a nap, 3am was an early wake up this morning.
I'm going to read Blood Wyne by Yasmine Galenorn I think.

Monday, October 3, 2011

Blue monogramed doily

Well, the doily with the verigated cotton is just not working the way I want and I needed a doily done today, so this one took me about 2 or 3 hours to make.
It's monogramed with an S, didn't mean to make the side decoration look like C's, so I'll have to do something about that when I write up the pattern.
But all in all, don't think it turned out too bad.

Friday, September 30, 2011

Blue

Well, I had the blue doily almost done but had to frog it out to the 2nd row, the rose on the left side was not far enough over to the edge, made them look funny.
Oh well. It was only a days work fortunately, so I'll be back where I was in no time, I hope. lol...
I guess frogging is universal, you ripit whether you are knitting or crocheting.
Maybe I need to knit a little Frog to sit by my laptop. :)

Hope to start reading Viper Moon by Lee Roland this evening, looks like it'll be good.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Reading

My other passions are reading and movies, in that order.  I love to read and I've been known to read and knit at the same time, difficult I know, but blame it on the ADHD. lol
The book I'm reading right now is Night Veil by Yasmine Galenorn, I really do enjoy her books, I've read all most every book she's published so far.
If you are interested, check it out.

At it again

Well, my neighbor loves doilies, especially blue ones, so I'm designing a special one for her anniversary.
I'm on the first row, but have it all graphed out so hopefully it will go quickly and easily.
I think it'll be really pretty though.
I'll post a pic when I get farther than one row. :)
Here's a pic of the cotton I'm using though.

Monday, September 26, 2011

Back to previous work

Well, I guess it's time to get back to the scarves I have been working on. I have finished plenty of other things so time to get back to it.
I'll post a pic as I either make progress or finish. :)

Weekend projects

Well, here are the projects I worked on this past weekend, nothing really intense but feels like accomplished a bit.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Dishcloths

Okay, here are pics of the dishcloths from the last post.

The Fuzzy Thing

Well, the fuzzy thing I was going to make as a scarf, is not going to be a scarf, the one skein was just too small.  I 've decided to make an e-reader cover out of it.  I'll post a pic when I get it done.
I also started and finished a dishcloth yesterday and another one today.  I love instant gratification. :)
I'll take pics as soon as I finish the second one in just a bit and post.
I do like working with cotton yarn, a bit slippery at times but overall not an unpleasant experience at all.

Sunday, September 18, 2011

One skein project

Well, I had one skein of this Patons yarn that I purchased several years ago, I don't know what I thought I was going to do with it.
But, I've decided to use it up and make a scarf for another Christmas gift with it.

Finish

Well, I got the purple scarf finished, it's so soft.  I think it'll be perfect for a 10yr old.

Friday, September 16, 2011

Another gift on the needles

Well, I started yet another one.
This is going to be a scarf for a soon to be 10yr old going on 30.

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Mystery Gift

Well, I think I have the first part of the pattern done, I've been working on it since yesterday, several hours so far, and I have 1 inch. lol...
But I feel good, like I'm really accomplishing something amazing.
I think it will be when I'm done.
And I've only had to frog back to the basic ribbing once so far, of course, I know I'll be frogging more at some point, but once in 2 days is like a world record for me. lol
Happy knitting all.

Mystery Gift

Well, I recieved a hank of Zitron Hand Art, I love it, and am trying to design a wrist warmers from it, I somehow (I have been smart enough to write down my stitches as I go), create a kind of 3 stranded cable.  It's looking really cool, I'll have to keep it going and see how it turns out, I think I have tweaking to do on one of the sections, but the rest look great.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

In a Funk

I need to start a new project, and since I'm trying to work on Christmas and get it all done, that is really what I need to work on, but...
I don't know which one I want to start on.  I have the yarn and pattern for one, but need to go get the needles I need (have straights not circs in that size), I have everything for a couple others but they just aren't speaking to me now and I know if I start them in the wrong frame of mind they just won't be what they should/could be.
Maybe I need to pull out my Dickens and read a bit to get in the mood of things again.
Ah well, I'll keep surfing, and drawing and see what I come up with.
Have a good day all.

Finished Hoodie

Well, here it is, I think it turned out pretty well if I do say so myself.
I think my modifications worked out pretty well.

Hoodie

Here's the finished hoodie sweater I was working on, well, almost finished, just have to sew the pocket on.
