Mocha Cozy Pattern

I have another pattern written up.
I love this one, and the yarn was perfect for it, the pattern shows up fairly well and better than expected.
Okay, here it goes, bear with me and let me know if I made any errors please, I tried really hard to get it precise, but you know sometimes the interpretation gets a bit twisted.

Materials:
I used Patons Kroy Socks Stripes, in color Sultana Stripes; less than half a skein
US 2 DPN's

Special stitches:
Provisional or Crochet Cast-On ( I use a utube video)
Knitted or Cable Cast-On ( Utube again is a great source)
Skyp Stitch { slip 1 stitch purlwise, K1, YO, Pass slipstitch over the last 2 stitches (k1&yo)}

The pattern is worked over a set of 8 stitches so it made decreases a little creative.

Using Provisional or Crochet Cast-On, cast on 16 stitches.

Row 1: Into the cast on, K6, P2, K6, P2
Row 2: K2, P6, K2, P6
Row 3: (K2, Skyp, K2, P2) 2X
Repeat rows 2&3until handle measures approx 9in (22.9 cm)

Start body of cozy with row 3:
At the end of row 3 do NOT turn, using knitted or cable cast-on , cast on 16 stitches, (start placing stitches on a second and 3rd dpn whenever works for you), pick up the 16 live stitches from the cast on by removing the scrap yarn and picking up the stitches (K2, Skyp, K2, P2, K2, Skyp, K2, P2) cast-on another 16 stitches and join to work in the round.

Body Pattern:
Row 1: *K6, P2* repeat from * to * around.
Row 2: *K2, Skyp, K2, P2* repeat from * to * around
Repeat rows 1&2 until piece measures approx 1in (2.5cm)
Ending with Row 2.

Decrease Row:
K6, P2, K6, P2TOG, K6, P2, K6, P2TOG, K6, P2, K6, P2TOG, K6, P2, K6, P2TOG (60 stitches)

Modified pattern :
Row 1: *K2, Skyp, K2, P2, K2, Skyp, K2, P1* repeat from * to * around
Row 2: Knit all knits and Purl all purls
Repeat rows 1&2 until body measures approx 2in (5.1cm)
Ending with Row 1

Next Decrease Row:
*K6, P2, K6, P1, K6, P2TOG, K6, P1* repeat from * to * around
(58 stitches)

Modified pattern 2:
Row 1: *K2, Skyp, K2, P2, K2, Skyp, K2, P1* repeat from * to * around
Row 2 Knit all knits and Purl all purls.
Repeat rows 1&2 four more times, ending with row 2

Last Decrease Row:

Work in P1, K1 rib for 4 rows, bind off in pattern loosely.

  1. Very difficult to read the pattern because the green trees in the background photo show right through the "white" page of the pattern.

    1. Thank you for the feedback, hope this is better. I like the picture of the other, but wondered if anyone was having difficulties reading.

  2. Hello! And thanks for this free pattern!
I was wondering though, if when you carry it holding the strap, would it slide up under the weight of the coffee and pop the lid off, spilling every thing? Sorry! I think it is a very clever and unique design, but just had to ask! :)

    1. I haven't had any problems with it, but I'm careful until I've taken a few sips anyway just to be sure. Better safe than sorry that your coffee's on the ground.
One of the good things about using sock yarn, it's made to stay up on the ankles so pretty much grabs and holds onto the cup. I have not however used it on a paper cup, only styrofoam that my coffee shop uses, so far.

    2. If the base circumference is smaller than the top circumference, then you don't have to worry about the sling slipping up past that smaller point on the cup.
If you're worried about this specific sling slipping upward, you could knit a tiny base circumference that doesn't go more than an inch or two up the cup and a *long* body with slight increases to conform to the cup all the way to the top.
